FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Getting started
-
Coaching is right for you if you are (a) committed to improving your performance and well-being, (b) looking for practical and/or emotional support to make the change faster, and (c) willing to dedicate at least 1.5 hours a month towards this goal.
-
Being a founder can be incredibly rewarding, but also exceptionally lonely. CEOs with brilliant co-founders, experienced boards, and supportive families still struggle because every stakeholder around them has a specific interest.
Finding someone you can talk to who understands what it’s like to be in your seat, has time to deeply engage, and is solely motivated by your best interest is a rare feat. At specific points in time, this can be a nice to have, but in the trickiest moments, it’s a necessity.
Even if you manage well on your own, as the most senior leader in the team, you are unlikely to get objective feedback and may miss what’s right in front of you. If you’re successful and scale, what it means to be a ‘good CEO’ will change every six months. It’s not surprising that less than 50% of founder CEOs still have the title after the first three years. This is not just any job.
Rather than a sign of weakness, having a coach shows you recognise the importance of investing in being your ‘best self’ because that has a huge impact on your team and your company’s ultimate success. No matter how experienced you are, a strong coach can be a game-changer for every entrepreneur.

I work exclusively with founders, CEOs, C-Level leaders, and investors. This allows me to concentrate on the specific challenges and opportunities that are unique to these roles. One thing my clients don’t have much of is time, so I help them get to their goals significantly faster or take action they would otherwise put off.
If I’m not in a position to help, I am happy to recommend other trusted coaches who would be better suited to your role and stage. Get in touch.

Coaching involves meeting once or twice a month to reflect on your biggest challenges. I’ll relate to you as a whole person so while we may initially focus on the professional side, no area of life including fun, friends, family, or other relationships is off limits.
Through active listening, powerful questions, and shared experiences I’ll help you work through your problems faster than you would on your own, deepen the learning, and help you keep accountability toward action if needed. Crucially, I am able to leverage insights from 100s of CEOs that I have mentored, invested in, or coached.

You’d be committing to at least 1.5 hours a month. Most of my clients choose to meet for 1.5 hours every other week. The initial engagement is typically 3-6 months so you have a chance to put what we discuss into action. Real change takes time.
For a busy leader, this might sound like a lot. In fact, cumulatively, it’s less than 2% of your awake time for the duration of the coaching. Limiting beliefs, unproductive thinking, and delayed action are most certainly costing you far more than 2% of your time, energy, and productivity. Consider how much more than 2% of time and impact this 3-6 month investment will save for years to come.

Some more radical coaches believe mentorship and coaching are not complementary. However, I believe at the elite level, coaching must be reimagined to provide the full support founder CEOs need.
I see my role as a trainer, mentor and coach. I am able to draw out inherent wisdom in my clients, but I also educate on the relevant performance science and business insights. Working at the intersection of these roles allows me to listen deeply and ask powerful questions, but also share resources, best practices, and domain experience (mine and other founders) that helps CEOs get the benefits they want.

Yes, I give clients my personal number and WhatsApp. I am available at any time if you are facing an issue where immediate support or fast and decisive action is needed.
-
I trained professionally as a Coach — first with the Co-active Training Institute (CTI) and then with Positive Intelligence, both programs considered to be the gold-standard of coaching qualifications. My formal education is in Industrial Engineering with a specialisation in Human Factors (Performance and Psychology) from the University of Toronto.
I also bring my own unique experience having built multiple venture-backed companies, and managing teams as large as 250 people, over 15+ years.
Costs & Benefits

My coaching is set at the market rate and should be affordable for the majority of startups. Top startups know that they need to train their team to be the best they can be. As a CEO, developing yourself is one of the most important investments. Don’t confuse it with splashing out on luxury travel or lavish perks.
The monthly rate paid includes time preparing for the sessions, follow-ups between sessions to help keep you ontrack, and ad-hoc support. When you book a discovery call, I’ll provide you with a quote so you’re clear on what to expect before investing any time.
I also donate 20% of my time to earlier-stage businesses led by underrepresented founders who can’t yet afford coaching. If you think this applies to you, get in touch.
-
Yes, I offer all my potential clients a free 90-minute session to first clarify their goals and motivations for coaching. If you’ve had a coach before we’ll discuss what has or has not worked previously. You’ll also experience my coaching. Ideally, by the end of the session, we’ll both know whether we want to work further together.

CEO Coaching is usually a business expense and is also tax deductible in most cases.
Think of it as a service that should increase your chances of achieving business goals. While personal matters are also likely to be discussed, issues at home almost always spill over into performance at work.
-
A company only performs as well as its CEO, so making an investment in your growth is likely to pay significant dividends in mistakes avoided, better decisions made, or actions taken sooner.
For example, one of my clients saved £50k by replacing a problematic leadership hire months sooner, another was better able to negotiate a term sheet and saved millions in dilution, and another resolved a co-founder conflict which could have destroyed the business entirely.

Our conversation and relationship are 100% private between us. Everything we say stays in the room and will never be shared with other founders, customers, investors, or partners without your consent.

Most good investors recognise the need to invest in founders not only financially but also emotionally. They also acknowledge that, as investors, there will always be situations in which they are not the best sparring partner.
Top funds such as YC, SpeedInvest, and Union Street Ventures actively encourage founders to seek out a qualified coach. PillarVC earmarks 1% on top of every check for ‘founder development’ in coaching and mental health.
The only situation I have heard an investor object to a company’s leadership investing in a coach is where the coach wasn’t a founder and therefore was not speaking from the trenches.

Coaching centres on the present and future, whereas therapy looks primarily at healing past events and traumas. In my coaching, I work with people who want more fulfilment in life, more balance, or a better way to process emotions. I help them achieve this by listening deeply, asking powerful questions, and supporting them to take action.
As a CEO coach, I’m also specialised in the biggest challenges faced by this unique role. In our complimentary discovery session, if I think you would be better served by a therapist, I will make this clear.

For any further questions, please send me a message. If you’re ready to get started, book in a complimentary discovery session. As part of this first meeting, there will also ample opportunity to answer any further questions you might have.
